When it comes to racing games, the video games industry is fairly open. But when it comes to endurance racing, players are stubborn, rejecting a game that requires extensive play. So when the Le Mans games were released, they were produced to satisfy the casual racer, looking for a quick blast. The PlayStation 2 incarnation of Le Mans 24 Hours from Infogrames is one of the latest to be produced that satisfies all players of the genre. It goes without saying that Le Mans on PlayStation 2 is the most advanced version to date, at least visually. The game boasts very detailed graphics, smooth textures and beautifully rendered environments and cars. There are over seventy cars to choose from in total, that incorporate nearly thirty new vehicles from the Le Mans 2000 race. You are able to challenge any of the twelve available tracks, all of which are true to life and realistically rendered. Most importantly, and true to the nature of the game, the setting of each race can take place at any time of the day, whether it be dawn, dusk or night time. Race lengths can customised to an extent, and for the true hardcore (and I mean hardcore) player, a 24 hour mode is available. It is in these races that you must form pit stop strategies and learn to treat your car with respect. An animated pit crew is a nice touch. With all the aforementioned features intact for the final product, as well as some great handling physics (demonstrated well at high speed), Le Mans 24 Hours is a polished game that deserves plenty of your time.
